5 Star Feed Port Arthur Texas Lime

Never ventured to Port Arthur's coastal beauty with its Cajun flair? What's stopping you? Afraid of having too much fun collecting shells or rocking to Janis Joplin tunes? Even if you've never peeled a crawfish before, know we have a reputation for hospitality.

Sooo, we'll teach you.

Here's just 5 reasons to make a Port Arthur road trip your next travel goal…and we threw in a bonus No. 6.

1. The Beach

It's called Sea Rim State Park for a reason. We're on the edge! The actual rim of Texas! Explore us in the upper corner of Texas that meets the Gulf of Mexico. This quiet stretch of natural beach offers more than five miles of reflective coast to share with shorebirds, or your family. Get some shells, go fish, and step up to scenic platforms and boardwalks to spot gators, otter, mink, and birds who call Sea Rim home. Was that a ruddy turnstone? The gulf side is a flurry of motion while the marsh unit is a quiet oasis with three paddle trails. What's at the end? One-of-a-kind camping on the water. It's literally…over the water.

2. Crawfish Season

Foodies, you got this. We're willing to peel our weight in crawfish to get to those savory, spicy tails. Remember, spicy doesn't have to mean hot, but we pretty much love it when it does. Cajuns and Creoles of Port Arthur have shared their cultural recipes with the world and now everyone craves gumbo, shrimp, crawfish etoufée, boudain, and other Louisiana-based cuisines. Port Arthur's got it. Bonus for enjoying #flavorsofPATX as live bands play on restaurant patios. It's a two-step thing. Get hungry. Crawfish season wraps up at the end of June.

3. Birding & Fishing

New to these adventures? Birders at any level of expertise can spot our famous shore and wading birds along the beach. Spring and fall migration bring colorful birdies through to famous spots like Sabine Woods. Anglers know that Sabine Lake – so big it ends up in Louisiana – is home to trout, redfish, and flounder so good they don't need exaggerated "fish tales." Leave Port Arthur with your "reel" story.  Lighted piers on Pleasure Island will get you to the fish and charter guides will get you way out to the big catches. Check out our charter fisherman listing and get our free birding and fishing guides.

4. Botanical Gardens

We bloom. The Port Arthur area is home to beautiful botanical gardens. Floral elegance is abundant and we're blossoming with events and festivals to experience at the Buu Mon Buddhist Temple, Shangri La Botanical Gardens & Nature Center, and Tyrrell Park. The Buu Mon Buddhist Temple typically hosts a Garden Festival in June. If you miss it, you can stroll the tropical gardens and lily ponds, ask for an exclusive guided tour of the Temple and shrines, and enjoy a traditional Vietnamese atmosphere.

5. Summer Camping

Becoming one with nature could take on a new meaning at Sea Rim State Park. Start with their newest boardwalk, Willow Pond, and get really, really out there by paddling to a private camping spot atop a floating platform in the marsh unit. It's as "primitive" as it gets. You'll be forever bragging that "the stars at night, are big and bright" (clap, clap, clap, clap) "deep in the heart of Texas."

6. Museum of the Gulf Coast

Port Arthur is all about extra, so here's reason No. 6 of many…Janis Joplin. This sing-her-soul, speak-her-mind, colorful rock queen was born in Port Arthur and burned bright enough to capture the world's imagination. Fans from the world over come pay their respects. The "Me and Bobby McGee" singer gave a piece of her heart and the Museum shares her story, displaying a replica of her psychedelic Porsche. The Big Bopper, Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Tex Ritter, and George Jones are famous music makers honored for their contributions to the blues, rock, country, swamp pop, rap, jazz, and other sounds. Hit the rockin' gift shop and Gator Selfie Station.

Port Arthur is ready for your road trip. Head our way for beachy, birdy, outdoor fun with the family that will leave you inspired, refreshed, and energized. We're about 90 miles southeast of Houston and we can't wait to see your #LovePortArthurTx hashtags. Sea ya in Port Arthur!
